The Rodenstock 420mm f5.8 "Tiefenbildner" Imagon lens is a telephoto, large format lens ideally suited for portraiture. Rodenstock Imagon lenses are achromatic doublet designs that have not been corrected for spherical aberration. Additionally, they are meant to be used with special sieve aperture inserts that enhance their inherit soft focus qualities. These lenses are meant to produce soft images that are generally thought of as complimentary for portrait photography. By adjusting the sieve aperture or changing them out, the amount of softness can be dialed up or down.
From the best we could tell from research, this lens has an image circle suitable for 18x24cm, just shy of 8x10in. It is possible it covers 8x10 sheet film but we have not tested to verify. It definitely has enough coverage for any smaller formats.
This is a barrel lens and does not have a shutter. It comes with three diffusion sieve aperture discs: H5.8/7.7, H9.5/11.5 and the H7.7/9.5. It also comes with a slip-on metal lens hood and a Rodenstock Yellow filter.
